GuideLive

How to use GuideLive

Short steps for guests (listeners) and guides. Live wireless tour guide audio runs on the guide's phone Wi-Fi - not through this website.

For listeners (guests)

You do not install an app. You connect to the guide's Wi-Fi and open a page in your phone browser.

  1. Connect to the guide's Wi-Fi (hotspot or local network they show you).
  2. Scan the QR code or open the link the guide shows (usually something like http://192.168.x.x:8080).
  3. Enter the 4-digit PIN and tap Connect, then Listen.
  4. If the browser warns about an insecure / not secure connection (HTTP), choose Continue / Advanced - Proceed. Audio stays on the local Wi-Fi; it is not "internet shopping".
"Not secure" only means the page is HTTP on the guide's phone, not HTTPS. That is normal for GuideLive on tour.

iPhone tip: turn off the Silent switch on the side - otherwise Web Audio can stay muted. Older phones (and Safari) may add more audio delay than modern Android listeners.

For guides

Live audio runs from the GuideLive Android app on your phone. This website is only for account and packages.

  1. Install the GuideLive Android app and log in with the same account as this portal.
  2. Buy or activate a package here or in the app (Play Billing), then open the broadcast screen.
  3. Join a local Wi-Fi: either turn on the phone hotspot, or connect the phone to your own Wi-Fi router / access point. The app uses the IP the network assigns (it does not invent a private hotspot-only address) - guests join the same Wi-Fi.
  4. In the app tap Start, show the QR code and PIN. Guests open the link in their browser - no app install.
  5. Tap Stop when you are not speaking (breaks, walking between stops). Consumable packages count live minutes while Start is on.
  6. Microphone level: on the broadcast screen, drag the mic slider to turn your voice down or up (including mute at the low end).
Tip: Stop saves minutes. Trial and minute packages only burn time while you are broadcasting.
Phone hotspot alone: plan for about 10 listeners. For more than 10, connect the guide phone to an external Wi-Fi hotspot or access point (see the device table below) - the router then carries the Wi-Fi connections, while the app counts listeners for your package. A budget phone hotspot often stutters with many clients - that is a Wi-Fi hardware limit, not the app. Guide phone and all guests must be on the same Wi-Fi.

Range depends on Wi-Fi signal. Street test: about 100 m with line of sight - clear audio. Walls and interference reduce range.

Live audio delay depends on the listener's phone and browser. Modern devices are usually near real time; older phones (e.g. older iPhones) can lag by a few seconds - typically up to about 6 s. That is normal for Wi-Fi + browser playback.

For tours longer than about 4 hours, use a power bank.

Recommended Wi-Fi devices by group size

On the phone hotspot alone, plan for about 10 listeners. For more than 10, use one of the devices below and put the guide phone + all guests on that same Wi-Fi. The router handles connections; GuideLive counts users.

With a router or portable hotspot: that device handles the Wi-Fi connections. GuideLive counts listeners against your package limit (e.g. max 10 / 20 / 30 / 60 / 90) - it does not replace the router's radio capacity.
Connections Typical devices / models Battery life Note
Up to ~10 Guide phone hotspot Phone battery OK for small groups; no extra hardware
20 listeners Huawei E5785, Alcatel LinkZone, TP-Link M7350 8-10 hours Stable for small groups, simple setup
30 listeners TP-Link M7450, Netgear AirCard series 10+ hours LTE Cat6, good price/performance balance
60 listeners GL.iNet Slate AX (with external power bank), Ubiquiti UniFi AP AC Lite (on battery pack) Depends on battery For larger groups; needs extra power
90 listeners MikroTik hAP ac2 / hAP ax2, Ubiquiti UniFi AP AC Pro (power bank/UPS) Depends on external power Pro AP devices; stable for 90+ clients

Examples only - any solid portable hotspot or AP that handles the client count works. Wi-Fi capacity is the router's job; GuideLive only counts users for the package.
